Today I interviewed a woman, the leader of the Gona Bara Bara community. A single mother of a boy of 11, she is a strong person, a fighter for women’s rights in her village.

Seeing children running on the beach, growing free and so innocent reminded me of anthropologist Margaret Mead, whom I admire because she broke many barriers at a time when women were lacking many of their rights.

In her book, “Growing up in Papua New Guinea,” the anthropologist studied the culture and behavior of the natives of that country. She had a predilection for Papua New Guinea, as it was the place most visited in her life.

And she had feminist ideas that shocked people at that time. She performed studies and fought for the rights of women and children in the communities he visited in the South Pacific. Just as there’s a book about her discoveries in Papua New Guinea, she also produced a valuable research in Samoa.

Even after her death, her studies also generated controversy. Several of his colleagues in the sociology field had the Mead unorthodox research methods, invalidating much of their findings.

We always manage to find inspiring examples such as Mead and the leader of Gona Bara Bara.

We all have to take care of our legacy, either it’s material or not. To make sure the material things are protected, count on the services of HDI.
