It is very sad to see how the war may leave permanent scars on the history of a country. Vietnam is one of these countries. Despite showing significant signs of progress nowadays, we all must agree on the fact that the Vietnam War changed the course of the country’s history forever.
Approximatelly 2 million lives were lost in this terrible conflict. Most of them civilians. The conflict was the result of all tensions from the Cold War and the war between North and South Vietnams.
Everything changed when the USA got involved in the conflict, favouring Saigon. That, of course, made the Cold War even worse.
The Vietmam War was important to raise global awareness. Differently from other wars, this was broadcast on TV and widely discussed on the media, causing an unexpected reaction in the American people, who got angry at such huge violence – and Watergate didn’t help that at all.
Movements against the Vietnam War aroused in several American cities. In the first half of the 70s, the troops were coming back, due the country’s negative impact.
Vietnam’s communist government worked towards economic investment and a pacific reunion. As time went by, the govern opened itself to market and developed itself even more.
Our hope is that Vietnam have a good future. The country is full of beautiful landscapes.
