Overshoot Day 2013
Tuesday August 20th, 2013
Today, August 20, is the Overshoot Day 2013, which marks the exhaustion of all our planet's natural resources for the year.
But what does that means? It means from this year's January 1st to today, August 20, we have exhausted all the resources we were supposed to consume in 2013... and that we'll spend the rest of the year, up to December 31, in debt with the Earth.
That's bad. Also worrying: the Overshoot Day was on August 22 last year. And it keeps arriving earlier and earlier - around 2-3 days earlier every year! Nowadays we would need 1 and a half Earth to supply all the resources we need.
