Brasil is the country with the most lightning strikes in the world. That’s because the heat and the humidity, common in brazilian weather, makes them more likely to form. And, crazy as it may sound, a lot of people still get hurt or lose their lives due to thunderstorms! But that can be avoided with a few easy precautions.
During a thunderstorm, be it in the sea or on land, the first thing you must do is find shelter. Open spaces are ideal for lightning strikes during thunderstorms. However, beware: don’t shelter yourself from the storm under trees (they tend to attract lightning strikes) and stay away from lighting poles, as they contain aluminium and copper, which are electrical conductors.
For the same reason, it’s good to avoid showering with electric showers. A lightning can strike the cord and conduct the electricity. The same goes to electric objects and anything made out of any type of metal.
