In the 16th century, one of the most famous European navigators dared to prove there was an alternative route the Indian lands: crossing South America.
Ferdinand of Magellan called his small fleet to explore the Atlantic Ocean seeking for a passage that would lead them to the promised land of spices – a passage that would be far, far away from Africa.
After facing a very agitated body of water and then sailing past the so expected passage that is today named after him, Magellan and his fleet had another reward: a sea that was was calm, smooth, peaceful.
The Pacific Ocean is the world’s largest and covers approximately 30% of the Earth’s surface – it’s a lot of water! There are approximately 59 square miles of water ready to be sailed past. The Pacific is our next ocean andwe can barely wait for it!
