A Chinese Christopher Columbus?
Monday July 29th, 2013
Italian explorer Christopher Columbus' achievements are known worldwide and well-documented. Columbus discovered America in 1492 and crossed the Atlantic another 3 times after that on his way to the continent, settling colonies for Spain in the New World. His travels would change the course of History.
In the last years, evidences of travels as impressive as Columbus', but made by Chinese explorers, rose polemical theories about the Age of Discovery.
According to the 1421 Theory, the Chinese had explored the seas and mapped the globe before the Europeans in the 15th century. Its central figure is the explorer Zheng He, who commanded expeditions to Asia, Middle East and East Africa from 1405 to 1433.
Was Zheng He a Chinese Christopher Columbus? Evidences found recently point out to the fact his travels did happen. In May 2013, a 600 years old Chinese coin was found in a digging site in the island of Manda, in Kenya.
On February 16, 2014 the Schurmann Family departs in a new adventure around the world, this time sailing through the waters of Orient and with eyes wide open to new clues on this ancient mistery.
