It’s always inspiring when sport takes over a person’s life. With the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro happening and windsurfing disputes, can not help but remember Wilhelm!

His passion for windsurfing came when Wilhelm was 10 years old. After becoming a professional athlete, he began to participate in various competitions in several countries. Today, he owns more than 180 medals and trophies from national and international tournaments after attending about 200 disputes.

The year 2016 turned out to be very important for the game. In May, it was determined that windsurfing would be withdrawn from the Olympics, a decision that was reversed after ensuring its place in the Rio Olympics. It all happened because of confusion with the language, making windsurfing be confused with kiteboarding.

The sport has been part of the Olympics since 1984 for men and 1992 for women. As the dispute occurs in a small time window that may not bring enough wind, all the necessary equipment are employed so that the competition can happen.

Sailing sports are one of the greatest traditions of the Olympic Games. Interestingly, they were not held in the first Olympics of 1896 due to unfavorable weather conditions. Apart from this episode, the competitions took place in all editions, except in 1904.
